Balloon Fun....

in Indianola was a fun this summer. Despite the crazy record crowds (I think thanks to the amazing string of weather we enjoyed) it was fun for the kiddos to watch the balloons land and night glow.....

The view driving in...the kids were in awe...

One of their favorite balloons...

Enjoying the view and definitely the weather! It was PERFECT!

Just a posing....someone was missing due to a little lack of interest in snapping a pic. I've been picking my battles lately :)

What a fun, balloon night!!!

YES!

Yes, I am behind...

Yes, I am back to work..even though everyone else in the house is still on break...

Yes, I have a ton of pics to download...including all the good ones from the StL visit...

Yes, we had a wonderful end to summer vacay...

Yes, I feel like such a slacker...

And, YES, I will catch up this weekend!!

Until then, here's a little shot from the family reunion we just had. It's the Meier side reunion...what a great time! It had been waaaay too long since I had seen everyone!!! (And it just so happens to be the one and only photo I have on my iPad from the past month....yikes!)

Hope everyone is enjoying the last few days of summer break! Here's to a fabulous school year and me definitely catching up on posts BEFORE next week's back-to-school fun starts!!! I can't fall behind on that!!

Love you, Munchkins! And, you look too stinkin' cute in that group shot photo by the way!!

It's TENT time....

out back and today brings one of the nicest days of summer so far!!

Grandfather handed us down this little beauty of a tent a while back and we are super excited to finally get some use out of it.

Jason and I pitched it together and I'm pretty sure it was my first tent ever. My pops used to take care of all the setting up back when my sibs and I were little and off playing. You should have heard all the questions I was asking Jason.

I was like a little four year old discovering something cool for the first time.

Jason even asked at one point, "Geeze, Jules. Haven't you ever put up a tent before?"

"Actually, Babe....I seriously don't think I ever have!"

Ha!

So, here's to new experiences and sleeping under tonight's stars!!

Happy Friday!!

Patio is in Progress...

but it's looking a THOUSAND times better and we are thoroughly enjoying the little addition to our living space.

Here are a few progress pics.....

And, although it's not perfect and it's not quite completely finished, we LOVE it. And, we LOVE the fact that we saved around 9 G's doing the little (okay, not so little) project ourselves....

These pics were taken in between teaching, football season, winter months, and a track season. So, even though it took a while....I couldn't be prouder of the work Jason (and his Pops) put into it....

The day before we started the project....an overgrown mess of rose bushes and plants. NOT very usable or pretty.

The SMALL walking space we had....and the cool outdoor broom that we found in those bushes. Buyer's bonus! Ha! Please note that, in order to watch my kids enjoy their swing set...I'd have to sit on a stool with all the aphids. Did I mention that I'm not a bug lover?!?!?

Who wants to prune these guys?!?! NOT ME!

I know. You don't even have to say anything!!!!

And the dirty work begins....

Good-bye bushes and plants....

Good-bye weed fabric!!!!

Hello pavers...what was on sale, of course! Because, let's be honest...I'm not rich and have lots of other things to spend our hard working money on. Anyways, we've never been ones concerned with keeping up with the Joneses.

Re-working the retaining wall and the pinning in of the blocks....gotta be safe!

Moving the dirt around...and making sure all the roots from all those bushes are gone!

Ty getting the plan from her Daddy! I seriously LOVE this pic!!!!

Time to level it all out. Going from two tiers of dirt to one.

Still re-configuring the blocks....

More digging in the dirt.

BEST helper EVER!!!! She loved every minute of it...and was always asking to get dirty!

Getting rid of more roots and fabric....

Still more leveling!

I helped, too, believe it or not. Although, as Jason pointed out, digging in flip flops probably isn't the proof everyone needs.

After the dirt was leveled out, it all had to be tamped down...then the job of laying the sand and pavers began. There had to be an ever so slight decline so the rain would run off and away from the house....harder than it looks!!!

This is the progress that was made as Fall came to an end and Winter was about to begin.

Sat like this through the winter....

Blocks were slowly piled up and stored away for the freezing temps....

Not too bad for weekend working!

Then, after it started to warm up, track ended, and school let out for summer, Jason got right back into it....

Finishing the end and leaving me with this semi-circle space for a little rock garden. A few small grass plants, solar lights, and edgers later....we are getting closer to being done!

And, I have to say we've been getting a heck of a lot more use out of it. Nothing's been better than being able to sit out on the patio and watch the kiddos and their friends play on the swing set or read a little book of my own. I may or may not even sneak out, after all the kiddos are tucked away in their beds for the night, and take it all in!!! My own little slice of peace and quiet!!!!

A view of the semi-finished project lit up at night.
And, I LOVE it!!

Way to go, Babe!!!

You did a wonderful job!!!!!!

((We still have steps and the deck edge to stain, build steps to finish off the back, and a little paving to do down on the ground to bring it all together. So, more pics are in the works!!!))

Woot-Woot!!!!

Let FREEDOM....

RING!

Hope everyone had a blast of a 4th and hopefully remembered to take a moment to be grateful for the freedom we have here in the good old U.S. of A.

In typical Weite fashion, we hit up a local 4th of July festival in order to watch Uncle Doug (Jason's sister's hubbs) play a little music and enjoy a little fireworks show. From the sounds of it, lots of places were really wet over the 4th. We thanked our lucky starts that the weather was beautiful and didn't put any sort of damper on the show.

It's been a while since we've watched Doug play, but they did and EXCELLENT job and the girls had an absolute blast dancing their little tooshies off!!! One of they even saw a little stage time with the rock stars!

All ready for the day!!!

The kiddo's 4th of July drink. THANKS, Pinterest!!! They liked it, but LOVED the way it looked! "How cool, Mom!!!"

Who's the #1 dancer?!?! Oh, how I WISH I had my video camera!

The kiddie section of this festival is awesome. All you can jump and do for ten buck-a-roos!!! Best Buds for this one!!!

Cuteness! But this ended quickly when Ty realized she couldn't quite master the jousting stick!!! But at least they tried, right?!?!

Juice box, anyone?!?!

On to the bubbles....

Yeah, Uncle Doug!!!

Ice cube?!?!

Someone loved the band....

And, someone else was working on her courage to get out there and boogie!

Just a watching!

Getting closer and so ready to show off their moves!

Daddy, Lori, and Grandma Marcia had a blast chasing this little guy around. He did not want to have anything to do with dancing in the dancing area. He was more into roaming off where he didn't belong. The creek, the port-a-potties, under the stage...you name a place he wasn't supposed to go visit and he bee-lined for it!!! Ha! What a CUTIE!!!!

My big guy....enjoying his 8th firework show ever!

Giggles.

Getting ready for the show....

Firework time!!! Which started out like this....

but quickly went to this.....

and, immediately to this! Ended the night falling asleep on Daddy's shoulder before the firework show ended!

After the fireworks, someone just had to get up on stage with Uncle Doug. She didn't quite know what to think at first....

But quickly warmed up, set down that empty Capri-Sun, and danced the night away!!! Thanks Uncle Doug!!

Trey Man...a little worn out from the busy day and ready to call it a night!!! What a celebration!!!

Happy 4th of July from our family to yours!!!
